KELLY TANG (Composer, born Singapore, 1961) received his undergraduate training at
One of the most prolific Singaporean composers of our generation, Tang's compositions have been performed by world-renowned ensembles such as the Russian National Orchestra, the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, the Mihail Jora Filarmonic (Romania) and the Ensemble Contemporain of Montreal. In Asia, his works have been performed by the Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Thai Navy Orchestra, the Macau Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra.
In Singapore, Tang's works have been performed by the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, the Singapore Chinese Orchestra, the T’ang Quartet, the Singapore Lyric Opera, the Singapore Youth Choir, the Philharmonic Choir and the Singapore National Youth Orchestra. His wind band scores have been performed by the Queensland Conservatorium Wind Orchestra (Australia), the Desford Colliery Brass Band (UK), the Singapore Police Force Band, the Philharmonic Winds and the Singapore Armed Forces Central Band with musicians from "The President's Own" United States Marine Band.
Tang's music has been presented at prestigious venues worldwide including the Sydney Opera House, Suntory Hall (Tokyo), the Hanoi Opera House, the Auditorium di Milano (Italy), Cultural Centre of the Philippines, Tokyo Opera City, and Carnegie Hall (New York).
Tang scored the music for the 2006 Australian feature film "Feet Unbound", which has screened at major film festivals worldwide. In 2007, he composed the symphonic score to the opera "Intrigues in the Qing Imperial Court” presented by the Chinese Theatre Circle. His Jazz compositions have been performed by legends Ernie Watts, Randy Brecker and Jeremy Monteiro.
In 2008, Tang was presented the COMPASS Artistic Excellence Award by the Composers' and Authors' Society of Singapore. He serves as Associate Professor of Music at the National Institute of Education, Singapore.
