Albert Lin began his musical training on the piano at the age of 3. Under the tutelage of Ong Lip Tat, he was awarded the 3rd Prize in the 1995 National Music Competition Piano (Open) Category. At the age of 16, he successfully auditioned for enrollment at the prestigious Peabody Conservatory of Music where he majored in Piano Performance with Marian Hahn, and was a conducting minor student of Maestro Frederyk Prausnitz. At the conservatory, he served as an official accompanist and also performed in all the major school ensembles which included a tour of New York with Grammy-Award-winning percussionist Jonathan Haas.
Lin later studied with esteemed American pianist Arthur Greene at the University of Michigan. Under Greene's guidance, he placed amongst the finalists at the California International Young Artist Competition, and was awarded the Gold Medal at the Concerto Competition of the Rochdale Symphony Orchestra. He was later invited to perform as soloist in the inaugural concert of the Rochdale Youth Orchestra.
Back home in Singapore, Lin has garnered a reputation for being a champion of new music. The Straits Times music critic, Dr Chang Tou Liang, labelled him as being “the darling of Singaporean composers.” His 2 full-length recitals under the aftereight recital series of the Young Musicians' Society featured solely local works.
In 2007, in recognition for his tireless efforts in promoting local music, he was invited to perform in the Singapore International Piano Festival. He was also invited to perform with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra in 2008.
Currently, he maintains a busy schedule as a recitalist, accompanist, and teacher. He also serves as adjunct accompanist at the Singapore School of the Arts, and as repetiteur for OperaViva.
